Have I been hacked?!

Posted November 5th, 2008 by Megan Taylor

So, I write up my post for today, publish and check the site, only to find that three of my recent posts no longer exist! The comments are gone, the posts are gone, and the only record is in Google's cache and my RSS reader.

Does anyone know of recent WordPress vulnerabilities? How can I check to see if I was hacked?

There was a minor upgrade (2.6.3) a couple weeks ago because of a vulnerability in the Snoopy library.

Check out this post about what to do.

I just updated the files, as opposed to all of the wp folder.

Megan, make sure you have the WP database backup plugin installed. It grabs your whole WordPress database and e-mails it to you at whatever interval you like. That way, if your site does get hacked, you’ve got a regular backup safe and sound.

Thanks Greg and Danny. I already had all the updates, and I do have that plugin, but it was set for once a week so I still lost some content. I haven’t seen any suspicious activity since, so hopefully it was just a fluke.
