I'm gonna try to get the UF Newsies to start something similar. Unfortunately, I'm juggling way too much to take on a project like that alone.

So create that site.

I created Overheard at KSU (it was overheardatksu.blogspot.com, but when I graduated I handed it off to the Stater to add to its blog collection... It needs updated now because the girl who had been updating had to leave the paper because she ran for student senate) after I was at a football game and heard a ridiculous comment. I turned to my friend and said, I wish there was somewhere to post stuff like that so everyone could laugh just as hard.

That night, I created the blog. I posted it on a few of my school's "entire student body" facebook groups and sent the link to some friends. Within a month I was getting pretty regular submissions without really advertising it. It filled a void, and was sparked by a simple thought that I decided to take action on.

So start a local Gainesville blog where you do this to get it started. Then recruit other community members or students to help post to it or suggest ideas. Put up fliers in some of those coffee shops you frequent. It will take some time, but it will fill a need. Plus, later, when you're looking for a job, people will be impressed by your initiative.
