Gainesville only has the one major newspaper. There are a couple of alternative and activist outlets, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually read those.

I am certainly disappointed, not in you, but the U of F journalism school. To require students to read a discredited, anti-American newspaper like the NYTimes is bad.-

CNN also has nice bulleted summaries of its stories (including all the AP stories on its site).

At least your professors tell you which papers to read. We always got "You're required to read at least two daily papers in addition to the Stater, watch a local newscast, and keep up with the news going on in the world and region."

Granted, I don't know how big Gainsville is, but we had the Plain Dealer, the Beacon Journal, the Record-Courier, plus papers like US Today, NY Times, Washington Post, etc. to choose from. And four local news channels to pick from. It made figuring out which one of these outlets your professor was going to quiz you on difficult.

You are required to read *the entire* New York Times AND Gainesville Sun every day!?!? Ouch. Granted, only about 45 percent of it is actually editorial, and only about 40 percent of that has any real value, but still...
